At present if you have over £23,250 in savings or investments or you have enough income (this does not include earnings from paid employment) to pay for your own care, you will not be eligible to receive social care support paid for by West Sussex County Council. However, the County Council will still provide information and advice to help you plan your support and Carewise is part of that service.
So, if you think you’ll need to pay for your own care, it’s a good idea to take financial advice and plan ahead for how you are going to pay for care well before you need it. This allows you to make the most of your money and have peace of mind when the time comes knowing what you can afford and how you will pay for it.
Planning ahead is particularly important since the recent pension reforms because you may need to decide what money you will need in the future to pay for care before you decide how to spend or invest your pension, even if you don’t expect to need care for a long time.
People who can benefit from the independent financial advice from a Carewise care fees specialist include those who might need a small amount of extra income to fund care at home or capital for adaptations or extensions to their home, people with an immediate need for long-term residential or nursing home care, people who are already resident in a care home and paying for their care from their income and savings and people with power of attorney who are looking after the financial affairs of someone else in any of the above circumstances.
The money advice from Age UK West Sussex can guide you through the different benefits that are available to make sure you are getting all the money you are entitled to.
