- Technology-enabled care
We want to make sure that technology-enabled care is easy to access and is the first choice to help people retain their independence and lead a full life, whether at home, at work or in their local community.
It includes devices ranging from units where people press a button to connect to a monitoring centre, to systems that help people’s memory, remind them to take their medication or monitor their wellbeing and environment. Technology can be used to detect personal risk, for example, it can sense if someone has a fall and can spot dangers in the home, such as smoke, floods and gas leaks and it can call for help if necessary.
Technology-enabled care is provided in West Sussex by NRS Healthcare, following a referral by a health or social care professional.
There were 2,084 new installations of technology-enabled care during 2023-24 (1,892 in 2022-23).
In January 2023, a ‘Go Safe’ pilot scheme was introduced to help speed up patient discharges from acute hospitals in West Sussex. This service was so successful that it was re-commissioned for 2023-24 and won the Service Transformation Award at the TEC industry awards in March 2024.
To find out more about the technology-enabled care services, contact our Adults’ CarePoint on 01243 642121 or via our online ‘contact us’ form on the county council website under ‘How to get adult social care support’. More information is also available at www.westsussexconnecttosupport.org
Looking ahead and what's happening now
A six-month project in partnership with NRS Healthcare to use an enhanced behavioural monitoring system will start in September 2024. Sensors are placed in a person’s home which provide data about their behaviour and movements. This is intended to support the assessment and reviews of 100 people with lifelong disabilities and will help to ensure that the level of care being provided is correct to meet their needs.
